Job Title: Senior Instrument Control System Engineer (ICSS)

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Job Purpose

To lead the development and execution of Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) design and engineering activities across onshore and offshore projects. This includes control, safety, and fire and gas systems, ensuring full compliance with project specifications, codes, standards, and client expectations within budget and schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

  • Develop ICSS deliverables: control/safeguarding philosophies, F&G philosophies, system architecture, HMI graphics, block diagrams, C&E matrices, etc.
  • Conduct thorough studies on system requirements to ensure accurate and complete design deliverables.
  • Create and review detailed engineering documents including wiring, routing, layout, and loop diagrams.
  • Perform sizing and selection of control system components.
  • Prepare, revise, and verify specifications and engineering calculations.
  • Ensure drawings and documents generated by design team reflect correct and complete information.

Safety Systems & Studies

  • Participate in and manage safety-related studies such as SIL, F&G Mapping, CHAZOP, Alarm Rationalisation, etc.
  • Integrate safety study outcomes into engineering designs and deliverables.

Procurement Support

  • Prepare material requisitions for ICSS packages.
  • Conduct technical clarifications, bid evaluations, and recommend technically compliant solutions.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation in alignment with project requirements.

Project Support & Coordination

  • Attend and contribute to client and vendor meetings.
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines (Mechanical, Electrical, Telecom) to ensure proper system integration.
  • Support procurement, QA/QC, HSE, and planning functions throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and witness ICSS Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Provide on-site technical assistance during construction and commissioning phases.

Profile Requirements

Mandatory:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation & Control / Electronic Engineering (BEM-accredited or equivalent).
  • Minimum 10 years of ICSS engineering design experience in Oil & Gas (onshore and offshore).
  • Strong command of international codes and standards (ANSI, API, IEC, ISA, ISO, etc.).
  • Experience in preparing philosophies, architecture, and control narratives.
  • Skilled in HMI development and knowledge of typical DCS, ESD, F&G, and SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with industry-standard tools (e.g., SPI, Aveva).

Preferred:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) with a recognized board.
  • 1-2 years of OEM or vendor-side experience.
  • Positive references or professional checks from previous employers or clients.
