Senior Commissioning Engineer - Instrumentation & Controls

Location: Karratha, Western Australia

Roster: FIFO 2/1 roster - 10.5-hour days on site (plus 30-minute unpaid break)

Contract Type: 6-month contract

Start Date: 1 November 2025

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer specialising in Instrumentation and Controls to support commissioning activities for a major onshore project in Western Australia. This role involves managing integrated control system commissioning, leading multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring safe and efficient project execution through pre-commissioning to start-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Manage control system changes, FAT, testing, and on-site commissioning.
  • Oversee isolations, work pack preparation, and execution of commissioning work scopes.
  • Coordinate with control system engineers, subcontractors, and technical authorities.
  • Support module power-up, process start-up, and system integration testing.
  • Develop and manage commissioning schedules and manning plans.
  • Provide leadership and technical guidance to on-site teams.
  • Ensure compliance with QHSE standards and drive safe work behaviours.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and Job Safety Analyses.
  • Expedite resources, tools, materials, and documentation to meet project milestones.
  • Liaise closely with onshore management and client representatives to align on priorities.
  • Review supplier and vendor documentation, FAT/SAT procedures, and spares registers.
  • Participate in progress, client, and coordination meetings.
  • Monitor punch list closure and maintain accurate reporting on progress and variation orders.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a relevant trade qualification.
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience in onshore oil and gas projects, with strong brownfield commissioning experience.
  • Proven background in planning and executing commissioning scopes and shutdowns.
  • Solid understanding of multi-discipline specifications, industry standards, and PTW systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing onshore commissioning teams.
  • Familiarity with industrial relations and working in client-operated environments.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organisational skills.
  • Proficient in documentation control, progress tracking, and schedule management.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making under pressure.

  • Valid TBOSIET, MSIC, and CA-EBS training required.
