Senior Commissioning Engineer - Rotating Equipment (Offshore Oil and Gas)

Overview

We are supporting offshore oil and gas projects in Qatar and are seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer with a strong mechanical background and extensive experience in rotating equipment. The role focuses on leading pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and handover activities for major offshore facilities, working closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to ensure safe and efficient delivery.

This is a hands-on offshore position suited to an experienced commissioning professional with proven capability across FEED and EPIC project phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead commissioning activities for offshore systems with a primary focus on rotating equipment

  • Represent the commissioning discipline during construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and handover phases

  • Develop and implement commissioning strategies, plans, and systemisation in coordination with engineering, construction, and end-user teams

  • Review and approve contractor deliverables including specifications, method statements, inspection and test plans, procedures, schedules, and drawings

  • Manage commissioning activities at system and subsystem level to support safe and efficient start-up

  • Oversee verification and functional testing of rotating equipment, including alignment checks, supports, lubrication systems, and performance testing

  • Witness or conduct FAT, SAT, string tests, and equipment performance testing as required

  • Coordinate punch listing, close-out, and handover certification activities

  • Support operation readiness, start-up, and final handover to operations

  • Participate in design and constructability reviews including HAZOP/HAZID and other safety or engineering assessments

  • Highlight potential bottlenecks or issues and propose practical solutions

Qualifications

  • B.Sc or B.E in Mechanical Engineering from a recognised university

Experience

  • 12-14 years’ experience in commissioning, construction, or installation within the offshore oil and gas sector

  • Proven experience with major rotating equipment such as gas compressors, high-voltage motors, medium-voltage submersible pumps, and similar machinery

  • Strong FEED and EPIC project exposure with ability to review and approve contractor deliverables

  • Hands-on experience in commissioning software tools and completion management systems

  • Experience in FAT, SAT, string tests, functional testing, alignment checks, supports, and performance verification of rotating equipment

  • Exposure to operation readiness, start-up, and handover activities

  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Ability to interpret and review method statements, inspection and test plans, construction schedules, and drawings

  • Willingness to work extended hours offshore as required

  • Computer literate
