Role Overview
An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Substation Civil/Structural Engineer to support its Substation Design Team. This remote position requires strong leadership, technical design skills, and experience within a utility or consulting environment for Electric Substation Projects up to 500 kV.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for technical oversight, mentoring of junior team members, and delivery of high-quality civil/structural design work for substation projects of varying scope and complexity. Candidates with a Professional Engineer (PE) or Structural Engineer (SE) license are strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities

Lead or review civil and structural engineering design for substation projects, including site development, foundations, and structural steel layouts.

Oversee and mentor engineers and designers, ensuring technical quality and timely delivery of design packages.

Prepare and review calculations, design reports, and technical specifications.

Ensure compliance with industry codes, client standards, and applicable engineering practices.

Participate in project planning, proposal development, and scope definition.

Coordinate multidisciplinary design efforts and provide construction support.

Conduct site visits for field assessments, constructability reviews, and client meetings.

Lead technical development, process improvements, and best practice implementation.

Support business development and client relationship initiatives.

Review deliverables and perform quality checks for accuracy and completeness.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.

7+ years of relevant experience (10+ years preferred for senior level; PE license required for senior III).

Proven experience in substation civil/structural design within power, utilities, or heavy industry sectors.

Proficiency in STAAD, RISA, or equivalent structural analysis software.

Solid knowledge of steel, concrete, and foundation design, and relevant design codes/standards.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Experience coordinating remotely distributed teams.

Ability to manage multiple complex assignments effectively.

Must pass a standard pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
Preferred Background

Experience in Power Generation, Transmission & Distribution, or Oil & Gas projects.

Previous involvement in substation design drawing creation and review.

Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and maintain client relationships.
