Overview
An established engineering design consultancy is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to join its growing Manchester-based team. The role sits within a well-regarded civil engineering function delivering a strong pipeline of clean water, wastewater, infrastructure, and treatment projects across the UK.
This position offers the opportunity to take technical ownership of design deliverables, contribute to multidisciplinary project delivery, and support the development of junior team members across a wide range of water-sector schemes.
Role Overview
You will be responsible for producing high-quality civil and structural design deliverables for water-sector projects, ensuring all outputs meet safety, quality, and technical requirements. The role involves identifying efficient and practical design solutions, preparing calculations and technical documentation, and contributing to coordination across multiple engineering disciplines throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities

Produce civil and structural engineering designs for water and wastewater projects

Prepare technical calculations, reports, and design documentation

Develop hydraulic calculations and hydraulic profiles where required

Identify efficient, compliant, and buildable design solutions

Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians

Contribute to multidisciplinary coordination and design reviews

Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, regulations, and project requirements

Engage effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders
Required Qualifications and Experience

Significant experience in civil or structural design within the water or utilities sector

Proven experience delivering hydraulic calculations and hydraulic profiles

Qualification at graduate, HND, or equivalent level, or demonstrable experience from technician level

Good IT proficiency and ability to work with engineering design tools

Registered with a relevant professional body and working toward chartership

Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills
