Senior Civil Design Engineer – Water
Location: Manchester
A leading engineering design consultancy is seeking a Senior Civil Design Engineer to take responsibility for producing high-quality civil engineering design deliverables across a wide range of water-sector projects. The role includes supporting junior team members and contributing to multidisciplinary coordination. Hybrid working is available with occasional site visits.
About the Role
The Senior Civil Design Engineer will produce civil engineering design outputs for clean water, wastewater, infrastructure, and treatment projects. You will identify efficient design solutions, prepare calculations and documentation, support junior designers, and ensure deliverables meet safety, quality, and technical expectations.
Key Responsibilities

Provide civil engineering design deliverables that meet safety and quality requirements.

Identify efficient design solutions from scopes and site visits and communicate these clearly.

Direct and develop CAD technicians, junior designers, and graduates.

Prepare design risk assessments, reports, and specifications.

Ensure design complies with technical, professional, and water company standards.

Ensure project change for design packages is fully implemented and recorded.

Carry out work using formal processes and procedures.

Estimate hours required for design packages and support programme planning.

Attend and present designs at HAZOP, ALM, KM, and similar meetings.
Required Qualifications & Experience

Minimum 10 years’ civil design experience in the regulated UK water industry.

Experience delivering hydraulic calculations and hydraulic profiles.

Graduate, HND, or significant experience from technician level.

Registered with a professional body and working toward chartership.

Good IT proficiency.

Strong communication, planning, and organisational skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience

Chartered Engineer.

Experience across clean water, wastewater, infra, and non-infra assets.

Experience producing outline and detailed civil designs.

Awareness of construction methods and materials.

Knowledge of engineering drawing practices.

Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
