Location: Olen, Belgium (100% on-site presence required especially during the initial phase - Occasional remote work possible after onboarding)

Kintec are currently partnered with a leading multinational materials technology company . They are currently recruiting for Senior Automation Engineer  to be based in Olen, Belgium .

Department description and responsibilities

The department focuses on software design and integration for industrial automation projects. As integrators, they primarily work on new installations and project-based automation solutions, with limited exposure to troubleshooting existing systems. The organisation is characterised by a unique setup involving small devices and combinations thereof, typical of tank terminals. The team is currently composed of medior profiles who require guidance and structure, making senior expertise essential.

Project description

The Senior Automation Engineer will play a key role in within the CRD-department at the site in Olen and will be responsible for this disciplines withing larger projects or will take on the lead during smaller projects.

Some projects, but not limited to: upcoming software migrations, SCADA system replacements, rebuild of an installation scheduled for next year. The first proof of concept (POC) begins in October, involving complex adjustments to existing standards.

The engineer will also be responsible for guiding the team through documentation practices and ensuring alignment with organisational structure.

Primary Tasks and responsibilities

  • Take ownership of automation discipline within large-scale projects.
  • Lead the development and expansion of PLC and SCADA systems.
  • Perform programming tasks including disassembly, reprogramming, testing, and commissioning of installations.
  • Support software migrations to newer versions and platforms.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex automation issues and breakdowns.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced engineers.
  • Guide the team in structuring and future-proofing automation solutions.
  • Ensure proper documentation aligned with organisational standards.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity improvements at PLC level (passwords, certificates).

Technical profile requirements

  • Min. 7-10 years of experience as an Automation Engineer.
  • Experience in a similar environment
  • Proficiency in PLC programming and automation software.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of electrical systems, instrumentation, control technology, industrial networks, and automation hardware/software.
  • Strong expertise in Siemens S7 PLC and TIA Portal.
  • Experience with Siemens WinCC SCADA and upcoming transition to Ignition.
  • Familiarity with Sepasoft Batch Sequencer.
  • Solid understanding of ISA-88 and ISA-95 standards, including batch process control and data structures.
  • Cybersecurity awareness at PLC level is a plus.

  • Strong communication skills to convey technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work independently and systematically.
  • Willingness to support and train team members.
  • High availability and presence onsite, especially during the onboarding phase.

Methodology/Certification requirements

Minimum bachelor's degree in Electromechanics with a specialisation in Process Automation or equivalent experience.

Language proficiencies

  • Fluent in Dutch (spoken and written).
  • Practical English skills for reading technical documentation and participating in technical and safety discussions.

Location

  • 100% onsite presence required, especially during the initial phase.
  • Occasional remote work possible after onboarding.
