Job Description
The SCADA Life-Cycle Engineer will drive the critical Ormonde Level-1 SCADA Upgrade, addressing lifecycle deficiencies identified during the July 2024 SCADA audit, which revealed issues in network components, ICS SCADA, and control systems for WTG and HV networks. Many components are 15+ years old, beyond lifetime recommendations, and pose a grid compliance risk. A previous engineering proposal prepared in July 2024 must now be reviewed, validated, updated, and taken forward to suppliers.
The SCADA engineer will act as the key technical interface supporting Digital Engineering, Project Management, Operations, Asset Management, OEMs, and other suppliers.
Technical & Upgrade Deliverables

Review the July 2024 Audit Report and produce an updated lifecycle assessment for:

WTG network components
-
ICS network infrastructure
-
ICS SCADA for HV systems

Confirm and update the 2024 component replacement proposal, including engineering hours, BOM, and lifecycle cost estimates

Validate component EOL status (servers, PLCs, network devices, SCADA units) and update the EOL budget accordingly

Prepare updated technical requirements and send them to suppliers for refreshed quotations

Review and update requirements and dependencies of the previous proposal where necessary
-
Report lifecycle findings, risks, and upgrade plans
OEM Communications

Investigate and document support availability from OEMs for the SCADA system

Coordinate with OEMs on system supportability, replacement alternatives, upgrade feasibility, and interface impacts
System Replacement Stream

Lead the evaluation and specification of a replacement for the ICS SCADA system, including:

Schneider Electric options
-
Market alternatives
-
Integration impacts to WTG, HV, and station control systems

Documentation & Tooling
-
Document work in Digital Engineering Jira tickets, Confluence, and SharePoint

Produce updated lifecycle documentation, employer requirements, technical specifications, and purchase support materials
Integration & Test

Validate integration between the different systems
Required Experience
Technical
-
Deep understanding of WTG Level-1 SCADA (especially Senvion/Repower) and substation/ICS SCADA systems

Strong experience with ageing infrastructure assessments and lifecycle engineering

Network engineering knowledge (WTG networks, ICS networks, fibre, switches, gateways)

Experience conducting or responding to SCADA audits

Expertise in specifying replacement SCADA systems (e.g., Schneider / SGRE or equivalent)
Soft Skills

Ability to re-establish structure in a project impacted by personnel changes and outdated proposals

Strong communication with OEMs, suppliers, Asset Management, Operations, and Digital Engineering functions

Proactive problem-solver, able to identify and unblock stalled processes
Education
-
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, SCADA/Controls, or equivalent

5+ years SCADA engineering experience within Wind Power Plants (WTG & Substation)

Proven experience in lifecycle replacement projects and handling obsolete SCADA components
-
Experience interacting with OEMs (Siemens Gamesa, Senvion, Schneider, etc.)
