Department description and responsibilities
Within P&T, the Global Procurement & Transportation Excellence (PTX) team drives process excellence, tools, templates and best practices across the global buyer community. This role will be part of PTX and will focus specifically on advanced sourcing and eAuction execution in SAP Ariba.
Project description
CLIENT is looking for an SAP Ariba Advanced Sourcing Consultant who will support the global buyer community remotely and on a call off basis in.
The consultant will primarily work with Ariba Sourcing / Advanced Sourcing (Upstream) and eAuction functionalities, but will also support standard RFx sourcing events when needed.
Primary Tasks and responsibilities
Event & eAuction design and strategy
- Develop the overall sourcing / eAuction approach and strategy per event, aligned with category strategy, market dynamics and business objectives.
- Define clear timelines and milestones for each event (preparation, test, live run, debrief).
Preparation & data gathering
- Support buyers in gathering and structuring event data:
Supplier contact data and segmentation
- Line item data (historic prices, target prices, volumes, units, technical descriptions)
- Commercial and auction conditions (minimum decrements, bid rules, award logic, etc.)
- Timing requirements and approval flows
- Internal team members and stakeholders to be involved in evaluation and award.
SAP Ariba event configuration
- Configure complex sourcing events and eAuctions in SAP Ariba (including multiple lots, scenarios and bidding rules).
- Set up all required test and live auction rounds in Ariba, including:
- Internal test rounds with buyers and stakeholders
- Dry runs to validate structure, pricing rules and visibility settings.
- Review and continuously optimize Ariba Sourcing templates and adopt relevant administration accountabilities.
Supplier onboarding & training
- Lead and facilitate supplier onboarding and training for eSourcing and eAuctions in SAP Ariba (15-30 minute practical sessions per supplier as needed).
- Ensure suppliers understand event rules, bidding mechanics, timelines and evaluation criteria.
- Coordinate with CLIENT's Ariba Supplier Support for purely technical supplier issues.
Execution & live monitoring
- Monitor live eAuctions, proactively support buyers and suppliers, and handle clarifications during the event.
- Support buyers in managing bid validations and enforcing rules during the event.
Post event analysis & reporting
- Capture, structure and report eSourcing / eAuction results to support award decisions and documentation.
- Provide post event debriefs for buyers and internal stakeholders, highlighting savings, supplier behavior, opportunities and lessons learned.
Broader sourcing support
- Execute or support small to medium sized sourcing projects in SAP Ariba for indirect categories (e.g. professional services, chemicals, logistics, maintenance, old material sales).
- Provide functional support in complex negotiations, including scenario analysis, game theory based strategies and auction design.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of CLIENT's sourcing playbook, templates and guidelines within PTX.
Stakeholder collaboration
- Work closely with buyers, category managers and PTX colleagues to ensure consistent high quality execution of sourcing events.
- Act as a hands on expert and coach, helping the buyer community to grow their maturity in eSourcing and eAuctions.
Technical profile requirements
- Profound knowledge of procurement and sourcing processes, ideally in indirect procurement. Expert-level hands on experience with SAP Ariba Strategic Sourcing / eSourcing / eAuctions, including:
- Advanced sourcing event configuration
- eAuction formats and strategies
- Use of Ariba contract and tactical sourcing tools is a strong asset.
- Demonstrable track record of running a large number of eAuctions (min. ~100) for various categories and clients (commodities, services, capex, old material sales, etc.).
- Experience in procurement negotiations, applied game-theory and auction-theory, and developing optimal eSourcing (including eAuction) strategies.
- Proven experience in:
- Leading and facilitating supplier onboarding and training for eSourcing and eAuctions
- Guiding cross functional evaluation teams through event setup, evaluation and award steps.
- Ability to design, configure and optimize Ariba Sourcing templates and maintain relevant master data/events.
- Strong analytical skills; high proficiency in Excel and in preparing clear presentations in PowerPoint.

Methodology/Certification requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. Business, Supply Chain, Economics, IT) or equivalent through experience, following the general approach used in other CLIENT/Ariba support roles.
- Any additional certifications in procurement, sourcing or project management (e.g. purchasing or supply chain related) are considered an asset.
Language proficiencies
- Fluent English (spoken and written) is mandatory.
- Additional European languages are a plus, given the global supplier and stakeholder base.
Location
- Remote role, with a strong preference for consultants based in Europe to align with the CLIENT and buyer community time zones.
Contract
- The number of events per year can vary; last year there were only a few, but the volume is expected to grow.
- For eAuctions, typical involvement is 2-4 weeks per event, with an average of 16-22 hours spread over that period (including preparation, supplier training, testing, live event support and post event reporting).
- For less complex sourcing events (non auction), lead times and workload are lower (preparation usually starts only a few days before the event).
- Start date: As soon as possible
- Duration and exact workload will depend on the sourcing pipeline and budget and will be defined in individual work orders.
