Overview

An international energy operator is seeking an experienced Quality Engineering Specialist to support subsurface technical quality activities for drilling and well construction operations. The role will focus on ensuring the quality, integrity and performance of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) used in well construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate and qualify premium threaded connections in line with recognised industry testing standards and internal performance requirements

• Review and interpret connection qualification test data to verify suitability for specific well environments and operational loads

• Provide technical recommendations for connection selection based on wellbore conditions, pressures and operational parameters

• Perform engineering design of casing and tubing strings including strength calculations and performance assessments

• Ensure tubular design meets well integrity and operational requirements under anticipated loading conditions

• Work with drilling and completions teams to optimise tubular selection for well construction safety and efficiency

• Define inspection requirements and develop quality plans covering non-destructive testing, dimensional inspection, hardness testing, hydrotesting and drift checks

• Verify material compliance with recognised industry specifications and project quality requirements

• Support inspection activities and review non-conforming materials to determine appropriate disposition

• Conduct technical assessments and audits of tubular manufacturing facilities

• Evaluate manufacturing processes including metallurgical controls, heat treatment, threading and dimensional control practices

• Lead manufacturer qualification activities including process review, testing verification and compliance checks

• Provide technical support to well engineering teams regarding tubular selection, connection compatibility and string design validation

• Participate in technical design reviews and risk assessments for planned wells

• Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis related to tubular performance issues during drilling or operations

• Review material documentation, test certificates and manufacturing records to confirm compliance with technical requirements

• Evaluate product deviation requests and ensure compliance with engineering and safety standards

• Review product identification, traceability and preservation requirements to ensure alignment with project specifications

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science or a related technical discipline

• Advanced study or coursework in metallurgy is advantageous

• Minimum 15 years of experience related to OCTG design, manufacturing, inspection or field applications within the oil and gas industry

• Strong experience with casing and tubing string design and connection performance evaluation

• Proven experience interfacing with OCTG manufacturers and technical representatives

• Extensive knowledge of tubular engineering practices and quality assurance systems

• Strong understanding of steel grades, heat treatment processes and metallurgical characteristics relevant to tubular products

• Experience reviewing material documentation including mill certificates, inspection reports and manufacturing records

• Familiarity with tubular inspection requirements and quality control procedures

• Experience evaluating manufacturing deviations and technical non-conformance reports

Technical Competencies

• Strong understanding of OCTG design principles, stress analysis and load case evaluation

• Familiarity with casing and tubing design methodologies and inspection protocols

• Deep knowledge of tubular manufacturing processes including threading, heat treatment, inspection and finishing

• Experience reviewing manufacturing documentation and quality assurance records

• Strong understanding of product traceability, marking and preservation requirements

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

• Ability to prepare detailed technical reports and technical documentation
