QC Inspector - Welding / Mechanical / NDT

Location: Qatar

Overview

A leading engineering organisation is seeking an experienced QC Inspector with expertise in welding, mechanical, and non-destructive testing (NDT) to oversee quality control for fabrication, construction, and installation activities. The role ensures compliance with project quality standards and international codes, while providing guidance to contractors, subcontractors, and vendors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure quality requirements for fabrication, construction, and installation activities are implemented according to approved project procedures and plans.
  • Verify contractors, subcontractors, and vendors have competent personnel and follow internationally accepted practices.
  • Monitor all site and fabrication yard welding activities to ensure compliance with approved welding procedures.
  • Attend all mechanical testing of Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) to confirm adherence to quality standards.
  • Witness welders' qualification tests and evaluate visual and NDT results.
  • Oversee daily NDT activities on site and in fabrication yards, interpret results, and assess findings.
  • Monitor in-process inspections of offshore steel structures and topside facilities, ensuring compliance with project specifications, corporate standards, and international codes.
  • Report daily to the QA/QC Engineer on contractor compliance and any quality-related issues affecting project delivery.

Requirements

  • Minimum high technical school diploma or equivalent.
  • Welding/NDT certification from a recognised organisation (e.g., AWS, TWI, API, ASME, ASNT).
  • TWI CSWIP 3.2 or AWS SCWI in welding is required.
  • ASNT Level II in NDT required.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in Oil & Gas downstream projects, ideally with international consultancy, third-party inspection/certification companies, EPIC contractors, or end users.
  • Strong knowledge of welding procedures, mechanical inspection, and NDT techniques.
  • Ability to interpret codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience reporting to QA/QC leadership.
