PROCUREMENT ENGINEER

Overview
An established construction and engineering organisation operating across the UAE is seeking an experienced Procurement Engineer to support major building and infrastructure projects. This is a key role within the commercial and project delivery team, responsible for sourcing, negotiating and securing materials from both local and international markets.

The successful candidate will combine technical understanding with strong commercial awareness, ensuring materials are compliant, cost effective and delivered on time to support project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify suitable suppliers and manufacturers based on project specifications.

  • Obtain competitive quotations from multiple sources using quantities provided by the commercial team.

  • Evaluate commercial and technical offers to determine the most advantageous option.

  • Collect and review technical data sheets and catalogues prior to submission for consultant approval.

  • Coordinate with internal quality teams to ensure documentation is complete and compliant.

  • Respond to technical clarifications raised during the approval process.

  • Negotiate final commercial terms following technical approval.

  • Place purchase orders in line with final quantities and agreed terms.

  • Coordinate with finance regarding letters of credit and other approved payment methods.

  • Work closely with planning teams to align procurement activities with site schedules.

  • Monitor shipping, logistics and delivery to ensure materials arrive on time.

  • Identify and propose equivalent materials where commercially beneficial, ensuring compliance with project specifications.

  • Provide guidance and oversight to junior procurement staff and support local purchasing activities.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 8 to 10 years procurement experience within the UAE construction sector.

  • Strong knowledge of international sourcing and supply chain processes.

  • Experience handling letters of credit and shipping documentation.

  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and drawings.

  • Strong negotiation and supplier management skills.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members.

  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.

  • Competent in planning and reporting software such as project scheduling tools and standard office systems.
