Job Title: Process Safety Engineering Lead

Assignment Type: Annually Renewable Contract - Residential

Location: Boden, Sweden

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8 hour days

Overview:
Join an innovative leader in sustainable steel production! Be a part of constructing a state-of-the-art plant in Northern Sweden, designed to dramatically reduce CO₂ emissions compared to traditional steel production methods. As the Process Safety Engineering Lead, you will play a vital role in embedding safety into every phase of this transformative project.

Key Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of process safety for the entire project and ensure it is built into plant design and delivery.
- Collaborate closely with engineering teams, contractors, and suppliers to integrate safety into all decisions from initial design through to project execution.
- Serve as the process safety expert, supporting the project delivery team and preparing for the handover to operations ahead of production start-up.
- Drive and lead safety activities such as HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk assessments, ensuring recommendations are implemented.
- Review and challenge engineering designs from a safety perspective.
- Define and apply Swedish and European safety standards within the project.
- Engage directly with authorities and internal stakeholders on safety and permitting issues.
- Develop robust structures for follow-up, risk tracking, and compliance.
- Be the primary point of contact for all process safety matters, both technically and operationally.

Requirements:
- Extensive experience within the steel industry or similar heavy industries.
- In-depth knowledge of Swedish safety legislation and its application in projects.
- Several years of hands-on process safety experience in industrial projects or operations.
- Proven experience leading or facilitating HAZOPs, risk assessments, or similar safety reviews.
- Strong ability to challenge technical solutions and make informed, decisive judgments.
- Effective collaboration skills, able to work across teams and drive action on safety requirements.
- Confident in taking responsibility for safety decisions while working effectively with others to implement them.
