Job Title: Process Safety Engineering Lead
Location: Boden, Sweden
Contract Type: Annually renewable contract - residential
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8-hour days
About the Role:
Join a pioneering company in Green Steel production, constructing a state-of-the-art plant in Northern Sweden. Green Steel production reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 95% compared to conventional steel. As Process Safety Engineering Lead, you will own process safety for the project, ensuring it is integrated from early design through execution and ultimately handed over to the operational team for production start-up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and be accountable for process safety across the project lifecycle
- Drive HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, and other risk assessments, ensuring outcomes are implemented
- Review and challenge engineering designs from a process safety perspective
- Define and implement Swedish and European safety requirements for the project
- Engage with authorities, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders on safety and permitting matters
- Establish structures for risk tracking, follow-up, and compliance
- Act as the technical authority for process safety and guide the team in applying safety requirements effectively
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in the steel industry or heavy industry projects
- Strong understanding of Swedish safety legislation and its practical application in projects
- Hands-on experience in process safety in industrial projects or operations
- Proven experience leading or facilitating HAZOP, risk assessments, or similar safety studies
- Ability to challenge technical solutions and make clear, evidence-based decisions
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to influence teams to act on safety requirements
- Comfortable taking responsibility for safety decisions while working closely with multidisciplinary teams
