Job Title: Process Engineering Lead – Olefins Unit & NGLE

Location: Sohar, Oman


Role Purpose:

The Process Engineering Lead is responsible for overseeing process engineering activities within the Olefins and NGLE (Natural Gas Liquids Extraction) units. This role involves providing technical leadership, coordinating with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams, and driving continuous improvement in production processes. The role focuses on process optimization, troubleshooting, technology integration, and talent development to support long-term business objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Process Optimization & Control

  • Analyze plant data to identify performance improvement opportunities across major units including ethylene and propylene production.

  • Utilize process simulation and benchmarking tools to optimize efficiency and minimize energy consumption.

  • Design and implement plant modifications, develop process flow diagrams, and perform heat and material balances.

  • Evaluate and deploy new technologies in collaboration with licensors and vendors.

2. Operational & Technical Support

  • Lead resolution of complex operational issues impacting plant performance.

  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA), hazard studies (e.g., HAZOP), and Management of Change (MOC) reviews.

  • Provide technical input for catalyst and chemical procurement and turnaround planning.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with product specifications and regulatory requirements through effective process control and data analysis.

  • Support process enhancements to improve product yields and reduce emissions or waste.

4. Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead a team of process engineers, ensuring alignment with business strategy and performance goals.

  • Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing within the team.

  • Foster a culture of safety, innovation, and collaboration.

5. Stakeholder Engagement & Reporting

  • Collaborate with internal teams (operations, planning, procurement) and external parties (vendors, licensors).

  • Provide performance reports and insights to senior leadership for informed decision-making.


Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or equivalent (required).

Experience:

  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or Refining sectors.

  • In-depth knowledge of olefins production technologies, MTBE, Pygas Hydrogenation, and NGLE operations.

  • Experience with field troubleshooting, simulation software, benchmarking, and SAP systems.

Skills:

Technical:

  • Proficiency in tools such as Aspen HYSYS, PI, LIMS, and DCS systems.

  • Ability to interpret P&IDs, PFDs, and engineering documentation.

  • Knowledge of process safety standards, emergency response, and HSE protocols.

Leadership & Soft Skills:

  • Strong team leadership and mentoring capabilities.

  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.

  • Effective planning, prioritization, and decision-making.

Languages:

  • English (required – fluent written and spoken)

  • Arabic (desirable)


Working Conditions:

  • Office-based role with periodic site visits to production facilities.

  • Frequent use of computer systems and technical software.
