About the Role

We're looking for an experienced Process Engineer to support key vinyl operations at a major petrochemical facility in the Middle East. This is an opportunity to work across plant optimisation, process improvement, and revamp design projects, directly influencing safety, reliability, and long-term efficiency. You'll serve as a technical authority within a high-performing team, reporting to the Head of Process Engineering and acting as deputy in their absence.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Process Engineering

  • Lead process improvement activities and identify debottlenecking opportunities
  • Conduct technical studies and safety audits to improve plant performance
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables including P&IDs, PFDs, and process specs
  • Design in-house process modifications and support environmental compliance upgrades
  • Assist in the evaluation of chemical and catalyst selections
  • Optimise plant operation parameters to reduce cost and improve reliability

Project & Technical Support

  • Prepare economic evaluations and feasibility studies for CAPEX projects
  • Review tenders and technical submissions from contractors and vendors
  • Use simulation and chemical engineering software for calculations and modelling
  • Coordinate basic engineering studies with external consultants
  • Liaise with licensors and manufacturers to ensure technology alignment

Safety, Compliance & Documentation

  • Lead and participate in HAZOP, LOPA, Fire Risk Analysis and other process safety reviews
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Maintain and update all relevant process documentation
  • Contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement systems

Mentoring & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Support skill development for junior engineers
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, procurement, and quality teams
  • Act as a key point of contact for service providers and consultants

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a relevant discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of process engineering experience, preferably in petrochemicals
  • Working knowledge of vinyl or ethylene production processes preferred
  • Strong experience with process control systems, simulation tools, and engineering software
  • Solid understanding of industry codes, safety systems, and project lifecycles
  • Demonstrated ability to lead contractors and cross-functional teams
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and technical reporting skills
