Control Systems Engineer – Manchester (Hybrid)

Chemical / Petrochemical / Oil & Gas / Refinery

A major industrial manufacturing site is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to support operational reliability, system enhancements, and ongoing modernisation across UK and EU facilities. This role suits someone who enjoys problem-solving, influencing plant performance, and working closely with operations and maintenance teams.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and test control system modifications required for equipment upgrades, capacity expansions, process improvements, or new product introductions.

  • Provide technical troubleshooting support to operations teams and field technicians.

  • Conduct system analysis, scoping studies, front-end design work, and collaborate with external engineering partners where required.

  • Play an active role in plant safety initiatives and maintain compliance with site safety procedures.

  • Ensure control systems are optimised for safe operation, maintainability, and long-term reliability across the Manchester and EU manufacturing sites.

  • Maintain and improve existing control system architectures, documentation, operating procedures, and maintenance standards.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or relevant discipline preferred.

  • Experience in control systems engineering within chemical, petrochemical, refinery, or related heavy process industries.

  • Strong background in distributed control systems and plant automation.

  • Proven capability in troubleshooting, system optimisation, and supporting operational teams.

  • Ability to manage design works, analyse system requirements, and implement improvements safely and efficiently.

  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, safety-focused work approach.
