Process Control & Automation Engineer – Permanent | Middle East | Tax-Free
An exciting opportunity for a seasoned Process Control & Automation Engineer to join a prominent industrial and energy group operating across upstream and downstream sectors. Role Overview
This position will be part of a high-impact team delivering automation and process control solutions across complex facilities. You will play a critical role in the full lifecycle of automation projects – from design through to commissioning – with a focus on safety, reliability, and operational efficiency in hydrocarbon-based operations.
Key Responsibilities

Lead implementation of industrial control systems including SIS, SCADA, DCS, and turbomachinery control.

Manage automation strategies for facilities such as gas plants, refineries, petrochemical complexes, and pipelines.

Conduct engineering studies aimed at improving safety, enhancing performance, and reducing costs.

Participate in risk assessments including HAZOP studies and SIL analysis, offering deep process safety input.

Carry out cost and value engineering to ensure optimal technical outcomes.

Assess vendors and contractors for technical capability and compliance.

Represent engineering in discussions with third-party equipment manufacturers and consultants.

Contribute to development of engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives.

Identify and implement new technologies and industry best practices.

Facilitate internal workshops and training to support technical upskilling and knowledge transfer.
Candidate Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Electrical preferred); further qualifications beneficial.

Minimum 20 years of engineering experience with strong automation and control systems expertise.

Proven track record in delivering large-scale automation projects, including commissioning.

Deep understanding of DCS, SIS, and control of rotating equipment (e.g. boilers, motors, compressors).

Familiar with industrial networks and protocols, including those used in turbomachinery control.

Demonstrated experience in process safety and technical risk assessments.
