Principal Civil/Structural Engineer – Permanent | London | Hybrid Working

A leading engineering and technology firm is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to join its expanding team in London. This permanent opportunity sits within a business delivering major projects across the energy transition, hydrogen, chemicals, and hydrocarbon sectors.

This is a strategic role suited for a highly experienced civil/structural engineer with a strong background in concrete and steel design for large-scale industrial facilities such as oil and gas, chemical, refinery, nuclear, or petrochemical plants.

About the Role

You will lead structural engineering efforts for UK-based energy and industrial projects, taking responsibility for the design, verification, and delivery of key civil and structural elements. This includes supporting the development of FEED and EPC phases and collaborating across multi-office delivery teams.

You will also be expected to represent the company in client and vendor engagements, mentor junior engineers, and support the technical integrity of all civil/structural outputs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and verify detailed design work on concrete and steel structures.

  • Review and prepare engineering documentation, drawings, and specifications.

  • Evaluate vendor documents and construction drawings for technical accuracy.

  • Support multi-office project delivery across FEED and EPC scopes.

  • Participate in client and vendor meetings, as well as site visits and inspections.

  • Provide technical mentorship to junior team members.

  • Contribute to project bids and ensure alignment with schedule and cost objectives.

Candidate Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.

  • Significant experience in civil/structural design for energy or industrial projects.

  • Proven expertise in the design of concrete and steel structures for plant or infrastructure applications.

  • Experience in one or more of the following sectors: oil and gas, petrochemical, refinery, nuclear, chemical.

  • Strong understanding of UK project standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Capable of leading teams across multiple locations and project stages.

  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
