Job Title: Principal Safety & Risk Engineer
Location: Office-based, Doha, Qatar
Contract Type: 1-Year Secondment Contract (Extendable)
Work Pattern: 5 days on / 2 days off, 8-10 hours per day
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Principal Safety & Risk Engineer to join a high-profile project within the petrochemical sector. This role offers exposure to the full project lifecycle and requires a technical leader with deep expertise across safety and risk disciplines.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead and contribute to safety and risk assessments across all project phases: feasibility studies, concept development, FEED, detailed engineering, and execution.

Conduct and review hazard and risk management activities, including HAZID, HAZOP, Inherent Safety Reviews, Concept Option Selection, and Formal Safety Assessments.

Perform Fire and Explosion Analysis, Fire Protection Studies (active and passive systems), and Fire & Gas Detection System design.

Develop Safety Critical Elements, Performance Standards, and Safety Cases for both onshore and offshore facilities.

Facilitate HAZOP and HAZID workshops, ensuring comprehensive hazard identification and risk evaluation.

Conduct Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA), Safety Case development, Reliability Studies (including FMEA, RAM), and SIL Assessments.

Apply Safety Management principles to risk assessments ensuring regulatory compliance and best practice standards.

Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams to deliver detailed design and FEED packages.
Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from a recognised university.

Minimum 17 years’ experience in safety and risk engineering within the oil, gas, or petrochemical industries.

Proven experience across all phases of the project lifecycle including FEED, detailed design, and EPIC execution.

In-depth expertise in safety & risk engineering disciplines including:

Active and Passive Fire Protection Design

Fire and Gas Detection System Design

Hazardous Area Classification

Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA)

Fire and Explosion Risk Assessment (FERA)

Reliability/Availability Studies (RAM, FMEA)

Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Assessments

Strong facilitation skills for conducting HAZOP and HAZID sessions.

Experience preparing Safety Cases for complex offshore and onshore projects.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within multi-discipline teams.
