Job Title: Principal Instrument & Control Engineer
Location: Stockton-on-Tees, UK (Hybrid – 2 to 3 days per week in office)

Summary:
We’re currently seeking a Principal Instrument & Control Engineer to join a forward-thinking engineering consultancy based in Stockton-on-Tees. This hybrid role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy transition projects across carbon capture, hydrogen, water, nuclear, and traditional oil and gas industries.

Involvement spans from concept through detailed design, offering a dynamic workload across a range of technically engaging projects in both greenfield and brownfield environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership on control and instrumentation (C&I) aspects for proposals and live projects.

  • Prepare, review, and approve engineering documentation and deliverables.

  • Assign tasks to discipline staff and manage delivery timelines.

  • Mentor and support junior engineers and graduate trainees.

  • Ensure all C&I engineering outputs meet quality standards, client expectations, and project deadlines.

  • Guarantee compliance with relevant industry codes, standards, and internal quality systems.

  • Prepare equipment requisitions for control systems, safety systems, analyser packages, and field instrumentation.

  • Define scopes of work for instrumentation installations.

  • Review vendor proposals and lead technical bid evaluations for instrumentation systems.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Instrumentation, Electrical, or related field).

  • Proven background in EPC environments or within large engineering consultancy firms.

  • Solid understanding of project lifecycle phases from concept to commissioning.

  • Experience leading instrumentation design packages in energy-related sectors (e.g., hydrogen, carbon capture, oil and gas, renewables).

  • Strong communication, coordination, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Knowledge of relevant UK and international standards and industry best practices.

Working Environment:
