Job Title: Principal Substation Design Engineer
Overview
An established engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Principal Substation Design Engineer to support the delivery of high-quality power infrastructure projects across the United States. This is an excellent opportunity to take a leading technical role within a collaborative and forward-thinking team environment.
The successful candidate will play a key role in the physical design of high-voltage substations, contributing to complex projects ranging from 34.5kV to 500kV.
Key Responsibilities

Deliver detailed physical design for power substations with a strong focus on quality and accuracy

Review engineering design packages to ensure compliance with industry standards and constructability requirements

Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and stakeholders

Produce engineering drawings and deliverables using industry-standard design software

Support project delivery in line with schedule and budget expectations

Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers

Review and validate work produced by team members

Maintain a strong commitment to safety in all aspects of work
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution

12 to 20 years of experience in power utility or substation design engineering

Strong expertise in physical substation design across a range of voltage levels

Professional Engineer (PE) licence required

Experience using design tools such as MicroStation or similar software is advantageous

Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
