Job Title: Principal Electrical & Instrument Engineer – Water Sector
Location: Manchester, United Kingdom (Hybrid, 1–2 days per week office-based)

Overview
We are seeking a Principal Electrical & Instrument Engineer to join a well-established consultancy with a strong pipeline of projects in the water sector. This is a key opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys working across all project phases, from feasibility and FEED through to detailed design and construction support. You will contribute to the delivery of water and wastewater projects supporting utilities across the UK.
Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical and control engineering activities from concept through to delivery

Oversee and approve electrical and instrumentation deliverables across the full design lifecycle

Coordinate effectively with clients, contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders

Develop electrical load schedules and specify telemetry, MCCs, and instrumentation

Prepare scopes of work for subcontract installation and evaluate technical bids

Support site surveys, provide construction liaison, and assist with commissioning

Ensure compliance with relevant standards, including WIMES and applicable UK regulations

Promote best practice in safety, quality, sustainability, and Net Zero initiatives
Requirements

Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering

Chartered Engineer status or working towards Chartership with a recognised institution

Strong background in EICA design within the water or wastewater sector

Recent experience reviewing and approving documentation for construction

Knowledge of UK regulations including ATEX, CE/UKCA, EMC, and PED

Ability to manage risk, safety, and quality effectively within project delivery

Strong leadership and communication skills with a proactive, hands-on approach
