Principal EICA Design Engineer – Water
Location: Manchester
A leading engineering design consultancy is seeking a Principal EICA Design Engineer to join its expanding Manchester office. This role provides technical leadership across EICA design for water-sector projects, with hybrid working and occasional site visits.
Role Overview
Lead the technical delivery of electrical, instrumentation, and control design across multiple water-sector projects, ensuring outputs meet safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Provide guidance to junior engineers, liaise with clients, and support multidisciplinary coordination from feasibility through commissioning.
Key Responsibilities

Own and approve EICA design deliverables across all project stages.

Lead technical coordination with clients, contractors, and supply chain partners.

Develop and review electrical load schedules; specify MCCs, telemetry, and instrumentation systems.

Prepare scopes of work, lead technical bid evaluations, and manage sub-contract design packages.

Provide senior technical input during site surveys, installations, and commissioning activities.

Ensure compliance with WIMES, UK regulations, and relevant international standards.

Promote safety, sustainability, and best practice across all design activities.

Mentor junior engineers and support capability development within the design team.
Required Qualifications & Experience

Degree or advanced apprenticeship in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering.

Chartered Engineer or equivalent senior-level experience.

Proven senior-level experience in EICA design for water or wastewater projects.

Experience reviewing and approving construction, installation, and commissioning documentation.

Strong knowledge of ATEX, CE/UKCA, EMC, PED, and other UK regulatory requirements.
