An experienced commercial optimisation engineer is sought to support refinery operations by delivering technical and economic insights through LP (Linear Programming) modelling. This role bridges the gap between technical performance and commercial decision-making and is essential in maximising the efficiency and profitability of refining assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead local LP (Linear Programming) model runs to optimise refinery operations and economics

  • Develop and maintain crude ranking and crude relative value assessments

  • Provide insights into monthly operational constraints and identify required investment to alleviate bottlenecks

  • Review and challenge existing constraints within refinery LP models to improve outputs

  • Coordinate with commercial stakeholders to reflect global market perspectives in refinery LPs

  • Generate sensitivities, trade-offs, and scenario analyses for individual refineries

  • Collaborate with regional asset economists to consolidate regional LPs and identify optimisation opportunities

  • Defend individual refinery interests during trade-off discussions while maintaining overall optimisation objectives

  • Deliver market and operational forecasts to support the annual business planning process

  • Coordinate with refinery teams, commercial units, and central optimisation teams to identify and execute short-term improvement opportunities

  • Identify and evaluate strategic and commercial value of potential investment initiatives to enhance system-wide performance

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline; MBA is advantageous

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in the refining industry, covering both technical and commercial aspects

  • Experience with LP modelling and optimisation tools preferred

  • Strong understanding of engineering principles, economic evaluation, and commercial drivers

  • Knowledge of international business practices and the ability to work effectively in multicultural environments
