A leading engineering firm is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support planning, specification, and purchase of mechanical equipment for complex process facilities. The role includes managing equipment such as pressure vessels, dehydration packages, cooling towers, water treatment systems, reformers, adsorption skids, clarifiers, pumps, compressors, and similar process equipment.

Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineer will develop technical specifications, evaluate supplier proposals, coordinate cross-functional reviews, and ensure integration of purchased equipment into the overall plant design. The role may also require acting as a lead engineer, overseeing project progress, and reporting status for team members in the UK and overseas. Experience in commissioning and operations is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare technical specifications and execution strategies for equipment procurement

  • Evaluate supplier proposals, conduct risk assessments, and coordinate cross-functional input

  • Act as lead engineer where required, managing workload to meet schedule, quality, and budget requirements

  • Liaise with other engineering functions to ensure smooth integration of purchased equipment into plant design

  • Provide technical input during commissioning and operational phases, including fault diagnosis and issue resolution

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng), European Engineer (EUR ING), or equivalent professional body membership

  • Strong knowledge of international engineering codes and standards

  • Experience with Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) compliance and CE/UKCA marking

  • Hands-on experience in commissioning or operations, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
