Multi-Technician - Electrical & Instrumentation
Location: China / Qatar Offshore
Overview:
An international offshore oil & gas operator is seeking experienced Multi-Technicians (Electrical & Instrumentation) to support commissioning, start-up, and operational activities on major offshore platforms. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on advanced facilities during both construction and offshore start-up phases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Start-Up Supervisors in executing commissioning and operational procedures
- Witness and participate in Operational Test Procedures (OTP), commissioning tests, leak and function tests
- Assist in the preparation of start-up procedures, sequences, and first oil activities
- Collaborate with the operations and commissioning teams to ensure smooth start-up and operational readiness
- Contribute to risk assessments, permit-to-work preparation, and safety briefings
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and identification of start-up tools and equipment
- Maintain accurate field documentation, including P&ID updates, red-line mark-ups, and operational records
- Participate in SIMOPS planning, site inspections, and pre-startup safety reviews (HazId, JSA, PSSR)
- Support mechanical isolations, de-isolations, and equipment draining
- Contribute to incident-free initiatives by reporting anomalies, defects, or unsafe practices
- Provide guidance and training to the core field operations crew on new procedures, systems, and process upgrades
- Participate in emergency response and crisis management drills as required
Qualifications & Experience:
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent in relevant technical field
- Minimum 5 years' experience in offshore oil & gas production operations
- Experience in control room operations or offshore production preferred
- Offshore certification: T-BOSIET, H2S, confined space entry & rescue, basic firefighting
- Competency in permit-to-work systems, JSA awareness, lifting and rigging, manual handling, hazard & energy control (LOTO), and radiation protection awareness
- Computer literate; able to manage operational and procedural documentation
- Excellent communication skills in English (written and spoken)
- Ability to work independently while maintaining strong teamwork and collaboration
Technical Competencies:
Instrumentation / I&E:
- Strong understanding of instrumentation, measurement signals, field calibration, and safety systems (ESD, Fire & Gas)
- Knowledge of Ex philosophies and petrochemical industry standards (CompEx certified, Ex1-4)
- Experience with production operations advantageous
Electrical:
- Strong knowledge of HV/LV equipment, generators, motors, electrical systems, and switchgear
- Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams
- Knowledge of Ex philosophies and petrochemical industry standards (CompEx certified, Ex1-4)
- Some production operator experience advantageous
Working Conditions:
- Onshore work during construction and commissioning phases at yard locations
- Offshore rotation (28 days on / 28 days off) during hook-up and commissioning phases
- Travel between sites may be required
- Work in outdoor, high-elevation, and physically demanding environments
