Role Overview
The MPD Field Specialist II is a mid-level field role responsible for performing and supervising managed pressure drilling operations. The position requires hands-on technical expertise, autonomy, and operational leadership. The specialist works on moderate-scope projects, reviews project documents for quality and compliance, and provides technical guidance to junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Security & Compliance
- Maintain high standards of safety, security, and regulatory compliance
- Follow HSE policies, company management systems, and industry best practices
- Demonstrate safety leadership for subordinates and visiting personnel
- Support continual improvement in health, safety, security, and environmental performance
Quality
- Ensure compliance with company quality policies and procedures
- Follow technical work instructions, test procedures, and operational standards
- Participate in audits and quality assurance initiatives
Operations
- Install, operate, assemble, disassemble, inspect, and test MPD and associated equipment
- Validate job hazard analyses (JHA) for wellsite operations
- Prepare accurate and timely job reports using operational tracking systems
- Access and follow supporting technical documentation and procedures
- Maintain readiness for 24-hour call-out as required
- Recommend operational improvements and support corrective/preventive actions
- Coach and mentor junior field staff
Communication
- Report equipment failures and operational issues to relevant teams
- Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders
- Clearly communicate roles, responsibilities, and expectations to team members
Financial Accountability
- Manage operational costs responsibly and within approved budgets
- Ensure expenses are processed according to financial policies and timelines
People & Development
- Take responsibility for personal training and compliance with company standards
- Support team development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management
- Collaborate with HR and technical development to enhance workforce skills and retention
Leadership & Vision
- Demonstrate ethical behaviour and adherence to company standards
- Mentor and oversee junior field staff
- Apply technical knowledge to improve operational processes
Qualifications & Experience
- Technical certificate or high school diploma from an accredited institution
- Associate's degree preferred
- 2 - 3 years relevant Oil & Gas field operations experience
- Competency in equipment operation, wellsite procedures, and field supervision

Physical Demands
