Job Title: Mechanical Technical Authority

We are partnering with a leading energy operator to appoint a skilled Mechanical Technical Authority to take ownership of mechanical governance across a diverse portfolio of decentralised energy assets – including CHP, biomass, biogas, and district heating centres. If you're an experienced mechanical engineer looking to influence asset performance and safety on a national scale, this role offers the perfect blend of autonomy, impact, and technical challenge.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead and support mechanical asset optimisation projects across decentralised energy generation systems.

  • Deliver expert mechanical engineering advice on a variety of systems including boilers, pipework, auxiliary plant, and rotating machinery.

  • Shape and maintain risk-based maintenance strategies and ensure ongoing compliance with PSSR and industry regulations.

  • Contribute technical insight to maintenance contract tendering and contractor performance evaluation.

  • Define and implement mechanical solutions that boost asset performance and reliability – all within budget and scope.

  • Act as the mechanical engineering Technical Authority, overseeing governance processes and supporting safe system operations.

  • Collaborate with internal teams including Operations & Maintenance, Design, and Process Safety to drive continuous improvement.

  • Support incident investigations and knowledge-sharing exercises across multiple energy sites.

  • Ensure all activity aligns with internal procurement policies and financial governance.

What You’ll Bring

  • Degree, HNC, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering.

  • In-depth experience working with boilers and mechanical plant in the power or heat generation sectors.

  • Excellent knowledge of PSSR regulations and safe systems of work.

  • Proven track record managing engineering projects and working cross-functionally.

  • Ability to solve operational problems through innovative engineering solutions.

  • Strong communicator with effective stakeholder management skills.

  • Analytical mindset with strong reporting capabilities.

  • Financially aware and confident managing project budgets.

  • Full UK or EU driving licence is required.
