Senior Mechanical Engineer - HVAC Design

Overview
A well-established engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong HVAC design experience to join its growing New York team. This is a hybrid role offering exposure to diverse commercial and institutional projects, with the opportunity to take ownership of full mechanical design packages while collaborating closely with senior leadership.
This position is ideal for a technically strong engineer who enjoys delivering practical, energy-efficient solutions and working across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities

Design HVAC systems including heating, cooling, ventilation, and air distribution systems

Perform heating and cooling load calculations using industry-standard software

Size and select mechanical equipment including air handling units, rooftop units, chillers, boilers, pumps, and cooling towers

Prepare detailed construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD

Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, and fire protection disciplines to ensure integrated system design

Conduct site surveys and document existing building conditions

Review and apply applicable building codes and standards

Support sustainable and energy-efficient design strategies

Attend client meetings with senior engineering staff

Assist with construction administration including RFIs, submittals, and periodic site visits
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

5 to 8 years of experience in MEP consulting

Strong background in HVAC system design

Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD

Working knowledge of New York City building codes preferred

Professional Engineer license in New York or New Jersey preferred but not required

Strong technical, coordination, and communication skills
