Materials Lead – Oil & Gas Projects
We are seeking an experienced Materials Lead to serve as the technical authority for all materials-related matters across major oil and gas projects. The role involves overseeing technical quality, material processing, material qualification, failure investigation, root cause analysis, and material testing during procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, delivery, and installation of equipment and metallic components.
Key Responsibilities

Develop and maintain specifications and standards for materials used in projects.

Provide technical guidance on materials selection, performance, and proper use for new equipment and infrastructure.

Coordinate technical quality, material science, and metallurgical activities during procurement, manufacturing, fabrication, delivery, and installation phases.

Ensure selection of appropriate materials to meet process, safety, performance, and quality standards.

Lead technical analyses and evaluation programs to determine the most effective materials for specific applications.

Design and execute product development trials using design of experiment (DoE) principles.

Lead qualification programs for new mills and materials.

Conduct metallurgical investigations, root cause analyses, and resolve materials-related issues during project execution.

Review non-conformances, technical queries, standard deviation requests, and product/component issues.

Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations related to materials use.

Provide mentorship and guidance to project teams on materials discipline matters.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering with a focus on Materials.

Minimum 8 years’ experience in metallurgical/materials roles within the oil and gas industry, including fabrication, manufacturing, or construction.

At least 1 year in a supervisory or managerial role.

Experience developing project basis and requirements for materials discipline areas, including material selection, welding, manufacturing, inspection, coatings, and corrosion.

Working knowledge of relevant codes and standards in the oil and gas industry.

Strong understanding of project phases, engineering, execution, and delivery.

Demonstrated experience in auditing, assessment, and review of manufacturing, fabrication, and project deliverables.

Membership in an international institution related to material science is preferred.

Knowledge or formal training in ISO9001/API Q1/AQPI Q2 Quality Management Systems, Non-Destructive Testing, pipeline or equipment material design, corrosion engineering, and quality system documentation.
