Overview
An international renewable energy developer is seeking a BESS Electrical Engineer to support the development and delivery of utility-scale battery energy storage projects integrated with wind and solar generation.
This role will focus on electrical design, system sizing, modelling, and grid compliance for battery energy storage systems. The successful candidate will work closely with internal development teams, equipment manufacturers, and external consultants to support project development, technical due diligence, and grid connection activities.
The position also contributes to technical evaluation of new project opportunities, engineering coordination, and the preparation of technical documentation required for project development and delivery.
Key Responsibilities

Perform preliminary and front-end electrical design for projects incorporating battery energy storage systems.

Support system sizing, modelling, and performance optimisation for battery storage integrated with renewable energy projects.

Manage technical engineering activities for battery storage projects during the development stage.

Assist development teams during negotiation and execution of contracts related to electrical balance of plant works for renewable energy projects.

Review electrical drawings, technical documentation, and engineering designs submitted by contractors and suppliers.

Provide technical input for tender specifications covering electrical systems and grid connection requirements.

Support grid connection processes and ensure compliance with applicable grid codes and electrical standards.

Apply knowledge of transmission and distribution networks to support project development and engineering decisions.

Design and optimise battery storage systems integrated with utility-scale wind and solar power plants.

Provide technical support to operations and maintenance teams for troubleshooting and resolving electrical balance of plant issues.

Participate in site visits to development, construction, and operational projects to support engineering activities.

Contribute to preparation of technical documentation used for external communications and project approvals.

Support project identification activities and technical assessment of potential renewable energy assets.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience working on battery energy storage system projects, ideally within utility-scale renewable energy developments.

Strong understanding of utility-scale wind and solar generation technologies and associated electrical infrastructure.

Experience with battery energy storage system modelling and simulation tools.

Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret engineering data and optimise system performance.

Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering and development teams.

Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work in dynamic project environments.
