Lead Process Engineer
Location: Qatar
Work Schedule: 5 days on / 2 days off, 9.5 hours per day
Job Purpose:
The Lead Process Engineer will act as the central point for all engineering design and drafting activities within the assigned discipline. This role also provides an engineering interface for management and interdisciplinary coordination. The Lead Engineer supervises and coordinates the activities of a technology work group, managing project needs including staffing, budgets, risk assessment, progress tracking, scheduling, technical execution, quality, safety, constructability, and preparation of design review plans.
The role requires coordination with other discipline lead engineers and project management teams to ensure clear interface responsibilities and effective project execution.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure the technical quality and timely delivery of all engineering data and documentation within the discipline.

Review designs to ensure compliance with contract requirements, applicable regulations, and codes.

Direct discipline design and drafting personnel to execute quality and timely design packages.

Define, plan, and develop the scope, procedures, budget, personnel requirements, and schedules for the discipline.

Organise discipline staff to meet project demands across various environments including onshore, offshore, and platform elements.

Develop and update manpower forecasts and review manhour expenditures against budgets, implementing corrective actions as needed.

Prepare project variance reports for budget control and provide management with projections on budget performance.

Monitor discipline progress and recommend corrective actions for deviations in work progress or budget.

Coordinate development of purchase specifications for equipment and materials, reviewing technical recommendations for procurement.

Lead design studies on technical issues, providing practical recommendations to project management.

Support estimating activities with technical input as required.

Initiate and coordinate Engineering Assurance Audits according to project schedules.

Develop technical documentation to support procurement and construction activities in compliance with project requirements.

Set policies and priorities for discipline work execution and monitor personnel performance.

Ensure qualified engineering personnel are assigned appropriately and provide feedback on staff performance.

Manage time charges, overtime authorisation, and timely release of engineering staff as work completes.

Promote alliance principles, encouraging ideas to improve project risk and reward positions.

Communicate and reinforce project objectives within the engineering team.
Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a relevant discipline from a recognised university.

Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role.

Experience within the GCC region is advantageous.

Strong experience in Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design phases.
Knowledge and Skills:

Thorough knowledge of international engineering codes and standards (e.g. API, ASME, IEC).

Proficiency with simulation and design tools such as process simulators and flow analysis software.

Demonstrated ability to lead design studies and provide actionable technical recommendations.

ERP system knowledge, particularly SAP functional skills, is preferred.
