Overview:
A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Lead Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of rotating equipment packages on major offshore energy projects. Based in Kuala Lumpur, this role is ideal for a senior professional with a strong background in design, procurement, and project delivery of complex rotating machinery for offshore or FPSO applications.
You will lead the engineering scope for high-risk and high-value rotating equipment from early design phases through detailed engineering and vendor execution. This position also includes team leadership responsibilities and coordination across engineering disciplines and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the technical design, specification, and selection of rotating mechanical equipment, including gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, screw compressor packages, and sea water injection pumps.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, classification society rules, and regulatory requirements throughout all project phases.
- Develop and validate engineering specifications and requisitions, ensuring all technical requirements are captured and aligned with project and client expectations.
- Manage and review supplier bids for technical compliance, evaluating complex and high-risk equipment packages.
- Act as the technical focal point post-award, reviewing vendor documentation such as datasheets and drawings for completeness and compliance.
- Oversee team deliverables, ensuring timely and high-quality output across all phases of engineering.
- Coordinate closely with internal and external stakeholders, including project management, procurement, and clients.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, supplier inspections, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Independently resolve technical challenges that may arise during package execution or post-delivery.
- Promote and maintain compliance with local regulations, international codes, and ethical engineering practices.
Candidate Profile:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum 15 years of relevant experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on rotating equipment in the oil and gas industry.
- Proven experience on large EPC projects, ideally involving FPSOs or offshore installations.
- Expert knowledge of international standards such as ASME, API 616/617, and related codes for rotating equipment.
- Strong leadership skills and ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and complex technical packages.
- Effective communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
