Overview
An established international energy and engineering organisation is seeking a Lead Cost Controller to oversee cost management for large-scale projects. This role will lead a team of cost controllers, ensuring accurate project cost tracking, analysis, forecasting, and reporting. The successful candidate will provide strategic oversight of project budgets while mentoring staff and supporting decision-making for project financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the cost control team to efficiently perform project cost management activities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain cost control procedures in accordance with project and corporate standards

  • Maintain detailed cost control plans, ensuring integrity and completeness of cost information

  • Set up cost breakdown structures, allocate budgets, and integrate data into project systems

  • Collect and consolidate cost data from multiple sources, including project offices, timesheets, and construction sites

  • Review, analyse, and update project forecasts using industry best practices

  • Conduct cost performance analysis, including variance, productivity, and earned value assessments

  • Produce and distribute regular reports to stakeholders detailing budget status, commitments, actuals, forecasts, deviations, and mitigation actions

  • Reconcile project costs with accounting systems and manage interfaces between cost control and finance functions

  • Provide input for financial hedging and risk management related to project costs

  • Review and analyse change order requests and variations impacting project budgets and forecasts, maintaining accurate registers

  • Coordinate with other project functions to ensure timely flow of cost information

  • Contribute to project risk management by identifying cost impacts of potential risks

  • Perform quantitative cost risk analysis to define appropriate contingency reserves

  • Mentor, train, and develop cost control staff, including performance reviews and goal setting

  • Capture lessons learnt and historical cost data for continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • University degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or related discipline

  • Professional accounting certification (CPA, ACCA, CGMA) is advantageous

Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 7–10 years of experience in project cost control within the oil and gas or energy sector

  • Proven experience leading a cost control team

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

  • Proficiency with project cost control systems and Microsoft Office applications

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and team development skills

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
