JOB TITLE: Land Surveyor
CLIENT: Global Energy Operator
LOCATION: Afungi Peninsula, Mozambique
ASSIGNMENT TYPE: Rotational – 4 Weeks on / 4 Weeks off
START DATE: ASAP
CONTRACT LENGTH: Annually Renewable Contract

Job Location & Dimensions:

  • Rotational position based at LNG Camp, Afungi Peninsula, Mozambique

  • Travel required to other project locations (Maputo, Pemba, etc.)

  • Part of a major LNG project Geospatial team

  • Open to both local and expatriate candidates

Activities

  • Liaise with project teams to identify all onshore and offshore positioning and survey requirements.

  • Manage bid evaluations, award recommendations and contract documentation for survey services.

  • Provide survey inputs for SimOps dossiers and other stakeholder requests.

  • Support positioning operations including site surveys, rig moves, pipeline inspection, pre-lay, as-laid, as-built surveys and metrology activities (onshore and offshore).

  • Review contractor specifications, procedures and method statements and ensure proper implementation.

  • Perform QA/QC of survey results and coordinate with the Geomatics team for GIS integration.

  • Support survey-grade drone operations including:

    • Ground control

    • Trajectory computation

    • Bundle block adjustment

    • Accuracy validation of final outputs (3D models, orthophotos, DTM/DSM)

  • Perform geodetic, topographic and GNSS calculations using survey software.

  • Provide technical expertise to project teams in topography, positioning and geodesy.

  • Define and implement positioning data management processes aligned with company standards.

  • Manage company survey equipment and recommend technology improvements.

  • Monitor service company costs and ensure forecasts remain within budget.

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental requirements during operations and travel.

Context & Environment

A major LNG development is underway on the Afungi peninsula in Cabo Delgado province, representing a significant global energy project.

Accountabilities

  • The role covers marine and terrestrial surveys, drilling installations, pipeline installation, subsea structures and metrology activities.

  • Accuracy and validation of positioning data are critical, with potential financial, safety and environmental implications.

Qualifications & Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (Hydrography, Geodesy or Land Survey).

  • Minimum 10 years’ technical experience in land and offshore survey, including LBL, Sparse LBL, USBL and INS.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as Company Representative for positioning and survey operations (rig moves, installation, inspection and metrology).

  • Proficiency with CAD and positioning software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil3D and industry positioning systems.

  • Experience with aerial photogrammetry and LiDAR surveys.

  • GIS and remote sensing experience advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of onshore and offshore oil and gas field development.

  • Fluent English, written and spoken.

  • Personal attributes: detail-oriented, proactive, reliable, adaptable and able to work independently and within a team.
