Instrument & Automation Engineer
Location: Hampshire
A leading engineering organisation is seeking an experienced Instrument & Automation Engineer to join a multidisciplinary team supporting onshore, offshore, hydrogen, carbon capture, and renewable energy projects. The role includes a flexible hybrid working arrangement that typically allows around 60% remote work each month.
About the Role
The Instrument & Automation Engineer will support the design, documentation, and delivery of instrumentation and control systems across all project phases. The role involves producing technical deliverables, coordinating with other disciplines, and ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities

Produce accurate engineering calculations and ensure they meet technical standards.

Apply relevant design codes and industry practices across all instrumentation & automation work.

Create key deliverables such as philosophies, specifications, datasheets, ICSS architectures, and documentation for field instruments, valves, and metering systems.

Support designers with cable routing, control room layouts, equipment room layouts, and instrument location drawings.

Collaborate closely with OT, telecoms, and security teams.

Perform P&ID reviews and mechanisation activities.

Carry out technical bid evaluations and assess vendor proposals.

Coordinate effectively with other engineering disciplines and assist with documents such as C&E matrices, electrical load inputs, and plot plan reviews.

Undertake short project-related visits to operating sites or regional offices.

Stay updated on evolving standards, regulations, and best practices.

Assist in the design of control and automation systems in line with project and regulatory requirements.

Uphold strong safety, environmental, and quality assurance practices.

Contribute ideas that support continuous improvement across the team.

Work alongside the I&A Lead to help deliver projects on time, on budget, and to the required technical level.
Knowledge & Experience

Solid understanding of instrumentation and automation principles in both traditional energy and renewables.

Experience producing I&A documents and deliverables.

Background in process or control engineering for large industrial facilities is advantageous.

Project engineering experience is beneficial.

Strong communication, organisation, and planning skills.

Able to manage workload, solve issues proactively, and support the I&A Lead.

Positive, adaptable, and collaborative approach.
Qualifications

Degree in a relevant engineering discipline.

Professional registration (IET, InstMC, etc.) is an advantage.
