About the Role

As a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer, you will act as the go-to expert for field instrumentation, local control systems, and operational technology (OT) across the gas distribution network. This high-impact role blends deep technical expertise with strategic oversight, shaping engineering standards, influencing regulatory frameworks, and driving innovation.

You will ensure compliance with statutory and company standards, support asset risk assessments, and represent the business in external engagements with regulators and industry bodies. Your leadership will help mentor and guide the next generation of engineers while safeguarding the safety, reliability, and performance of critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical authority for instrumentation, control systems, and OT.

  • Support the development of engineering standards and regulatory compliance.

  • Lead asset risk assessments and deliver technical solutions to improve safety and reliability.

  • Represent the company in discussions with regulators, industry forums, and stakeholders.

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering professional growth within the team.

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for engineering processes and practices.

What You Will Bring

  • Industry Expertise: Significant engineering experience within gas transmission, distribution, or other major hazard industries.

  • C&I Systems Knowledge: Proven technical depth in instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA in hazardous environments.

  • Regulatory Understanding: Strong knowledge of EAWR, DSEAR, EPS, and other relevant regulations.

  • Engineering Judgement: Ability to interpret complex technical data, drawings, and standards to make sound, risk-based decisions.

  • Leadership & Communication: Skilled in influencing stakeholders, mentoring engineers, and managing cross-functional relationships.

  • Continuous Improvement Mindset: Demonstrated record of driving enhancements in engineering standards, processes, and compliance.
