Job Title: Controls & Instrumentation Engineer – Operator
Location: Midlands (with travel as required)
About the Role
As a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer, you will be the go-to expert for field instrumentation, local control systems, and operational technology (OT). This is a high-impact position where your technical expertise will shape engineering standards, support regulatory compliance, and drive innovation across the gas distribution network.
You’ll provide strategic engineering insight, ensure statutory and company standards are upheld, and mentor the next generation of engineers. From asset risk assessments to engaging with regulators and industry bodies, your work will underpin the safety, reliability, and performance of critical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities

Act as the technical authority for instrumentation, control systems, and OT.

Support the development and enforcement of engineering standards and compliance.

Lead asset risk assessments, delivering solutions to enhance safety and reliability.

Represent the business with regulators, industry forums, and external stakeholders.

Mentor and guide junior engineers, promoting knowledge transfer and team growth.

Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and standards.
What You Will Bring

Industry Expertise: Extensive experience in gas transmission, distribution, or other major hazard industries.

C&I Systems Knowledge: Strong technical depth in instrumentation, control systems, and SCADA within hazardous environments.

Regulatory Understanding: Excellent knowledge of EAWR, DSEAR, EPS, and related regulations.

Engineering Judgement: Skilled in interpreting complex technical data, drawings, and standards to inform sound decisions.

Leadership & Communication: Ability to influence stakeholders, mentor engineers, and manage cross-functional collaboration.
