About the Role
An established international energy organisation is seeking an experienced HSSE Manager to lead Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental operations across multiple renewable energy projects in Malaysia. This position plays a key role in shaping and delivering safety excellence from the ground up, covering all project phases from construction to operation.
The role will focus on embedding a proactive safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, and driving continuous improvement across all HSSE systems, contractors, and on-site activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and manage the company's HSSE Management System in line with local regulations and corporate standards.
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian OSH and environmental legislation and liaise with relevant government authorities.
- Develop and maintain the country's HSSE strategy, risk registers, and training plans.
- Lead risk management initiatives, including hazard identification, PTW, and SIMOPS assessments.
- Oversee contractor HSSE performance, audits, and improvement programmes.
- Lead emergency response planning, training, and crisis management activities.
- Conduct site inspections, behavioural safety observations, and internal audits.
- Support incident investigation processes using recognised methodologies (e.g., ICAM, 5-Whys).
- Drive regional collaboration and best practice sharing across project teams.
About You
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Registered Safety and Health Officer (SHO) with DOSH Malaysia or Safety and Health Coordinator (SHC).
- Minimum of 8 to 10 years of HSSE experience, including leadership roles on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven background in renewable energy (solar project experience is essential).
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian OSH and environmental regulations.
- Skilled in incident investigation, contractor management, and high-risk construction safety.
- Competent in environmental permitting, EIA, and emergency response planning.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Comfortable managing multiple sites and working independently.
Desirable Experience
- NEBOSH Diploma, Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or ISO Lead Auditor certification.
- Exposure to international lender or IFC/Equator Principles standards.
- Experience in self-EPC or EPC environments and working with diverse contractor teams.
- Familiarity with digital EHS tools and data reporting platforms.
Additional Information
- Candidates must have full Malaysian working rights with no restrictions.
- This role requires regular travel and stays near the project site during the work week (Monday-Friday).
- Candidates with availability within 2 months or less are preferred.
