Job Title: HSE & Technical Safety Engineer – Hydrogen Projects

Location: UK (Onshore and Offshore)
Hybrid work options; travel to onshore/offshore sites may be required.

About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced HSE & Technical Safety Engineer to support hydrogen, CCUS, and energy transition projects. You will integrate health, safety, environmental, and process safety principles across design, construction, and operational phases for hydrogen production, storage, transportation, and offshore energy facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HSE and technical safety strategies, specifications, and philosophies.

  • Ensure compliance with UK legislation and regulatory frameworks, including COMAH, DSEAR, PFEER, and ATEX.

  • Lead and participate in HAZID, HAZOP, ENVID, and ALARP workshops.

  • Conduct and review risk assessments, quantitative risk analysis, and safety case documentation.

  • Oversee fire and gas detection, firewater, and escape, evacuation, and rescue (EER) systems.

  • Perform or review hazardous area classification, dispersion modelling, and explosion risk analysis.

  • Support development of Safety, Environmental, and Control Engineering standards aligned with UKCS and industry best practice.

  • Conduct onshore and offshore HSE reviews to ensure safe systems of work and contractor compliance.

  • Promote safety and sustainability culture and mentor junior engineers.

Requirements:

  • Degree in HSE, Chemical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).

  • Proven experience in HSE / Technical Safety for hydrogen, gas, or major hazard projects (onshore/offshore).

  • Knowledge of UKCS and onshore safety legislation (COMAH, DSEAR, PFEER, Safety Case Regulations).

  • Familiarity with PHAST, PipeNET, and Fire & Gas mapping tools advantageous.

  • Strong understanding of risk management, loss prevention, and process safety design.

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
