Job Title: Head of Mechanical Rotating Engineering
Location: Offshore - Qatar
Work Schedule: 5 days per week (field visits and extended hours as required)
Job Purpose
Lead the Rotating Equipment engineering discipline for major offshore oil and gas projects, ensuring all engineering, design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning activities are executed safely, on time, within budget, and aligned with project and corporate standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Rotating Equipment engineering input across all project phases, including design, procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
- Maintain technical integrity of engineering and design activities within the Rotating discipline, ensuring safe, cost-efficient, and timely solutions.
- Provide direction on technical services within the Rotating engineering scope, including design basis, EPIC scope preparation, design/safety/operations reviews, procurement, factory acceptance tests, and vendor selection.
- Act as the technical authority for the Rotating discipline, reviewing and approving deviations while ensuring safety, operability, and cost optimisation; escalate major deviations to senior engineering management as required.
- Lead the Rotating discipline team in developing design scope and deliverables compliant with applicable codes, standards, project requirements, and corporate procedures.
- Coordinate and participate in design and safety reviews, including ITR/PSDR/DRR, ENVID, HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, Bowties, ALARP, SAFOP, SIMOPS, 3D model reviews, and constructability assessments.
- Manage interfaces between the Rotating discipline and other project phases, aligning contractor design efforts with safety, start-up, cost, and constructability requirements.
- Represent the organization in dealings with EPIC contractors, addressing technical queries and interpreting scope, specifications, and standards.
- Monitor team capacity and escalate resourcing issues; participate in project assurance reviews and audits, ensuring timely closure of findings.
- Provide technical guidance for EPIC tender preparations, procurement activities, technical bid evaluation, and contractor technical queries.
- Lead selection of technology, equipment, field devices, and other Rotating-specific systems, evaluating techno-economic options.
- Endorse Rotating design calculations, system studies, design philosophies, software model inputs/outputs, drawings, specifications, and vendor data.
- Supervise team members, including mentoring and development of Qatari Nationals, ensuring appropriate training and career progression.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree advantageous.
- Membership in a recognized professional engineering association preferred.
- Minimum 15 years' experience in Rotating equipment engineering in oil and gas projects, with at least 10 years in offshore projects.
- Minimum 8 years as Senior Rotating Engineer and 7 years as Lead Discipline Engineer on major projects with engineering consultants, EPIC contractors, or oil and gas companies.
- Extensive familiarity with international design codes, standards, and mechanical engineering software.
- Proven ability to lead and manage multidisciplinary engineering teams in major project environments.
