Head of Loss Prevention Engineering

Location: Qatar

Overview
An experienced Head of Loss Prevention Engineering is required to provide technical leadership and oversight across complex oil and gas projects and operating assets. This senior role is responsible for ensuring robust risk management, loss prevention strategies, and safety engineering practices throughout all phases of project execution, from early design through to start-up and handover.

The position suits a seasoned process or safety professional with strong leadership capability, broad operational exposure, and a proven track record within large, integrated energy organisations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for loss prevention engineering activities across projects and operations.

  • Oversee safety and risk management processes throughout all project phases, including design, execution, start-up, and handover.

  • Lead and participate in safety and I and C studies including HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, and SAFOP sessions.

  • Support decision-making through structured risk assessment methodologies.

  • Provide oversight of contractors, sub-contractors, vendors, and service providers to ensure compliance with safety and engineering requirements.

  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams across operations, projects, and subsurface functions within integrated organisations.

  • Support implementation of fire and gas philosophies, including fire water networks and passive and active fire protection systems.

  • Drive adoption of new technologies and continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and loss prevention.

  • Manage and resolve complex technical issues during project execution and operational phases.

  • Ensure alignment with applicable engineering standards, industry best practices, and regulatory expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in engineering roles, including at least 6 years within the oil and gas industry.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory, acting, or oversight role involving contractors or service providers.

  • Extensive experience working with oil and gas companies, EPC contractors, vendors, and service organisations.

  • Broad experience across all phases of project execution, including start-up and handover.

  • Strong background in risk-based decision making and safety engineering practices.

  • Experience working within large, integrated operating organisations across operations, projects, and related disciplines.

  • Proven experience in technology adoption and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrated expertise in fire water systems and passive and active fire protection.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
