An exceptional opportunity has become available for a highly experienced Head of Expediting and Logistics to lead global supply chain operations for a large-scale industrial project. This leadership role will drive the strategic management of material procurement, shipping, customs compliance, and logistics optimisation for complex international operations.

Job Description

The Head of Expediting and Logistics will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of material expediting, international shipping, vendor management, customs compliance, and freight forwarding to ensure timely and efficient delivery of critical materials. The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to managing complex, high-volume global logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement expediting and logistics strategies aligned with project objectives to ensure on-time delivery of materials for large-scale operations.

  • Lead and manage supplier performance, ensuring adherence to key performance indicators (KPIs), contract compliance, and contingency plans.

  • Oversee and administer freight forwarder contracts, managing high volumes of international shipments across multiple global regions.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations, trade laws, and government policies to ensure full compliance in all shipping activities.

  • Develop and manage real-time tracking systems for global shipment visibility and vendor performance monitoring.

  • Negotiate with port authorities, customs bodies, and government regulators to ensure seamless logistics operations and regulatory compliance.

  • Supervise the movement of oversized, heavy-lift, and specialised cargo requiring detailed route surveys, permits, and regulatory clearances.

  • Lead digital transformation initiatives to optimise expediting functions, automate workflows, and integrate data-driven decision-making tools.

  • Manage cost-saving initiatives through strategic freight contracts, supplier collaboration, and continuous process improvement.

  • Build and lead a high-performing expediting and logistics team, promoting operational excellence and leadership development.

  • Lead sustainability efforts in logistics, focusing on emissions reduction, green logistics practices, and fuel optimisation.

  • Develop robust risk management frameworks to proactively identify and mitigate potential disruptions in the global supply chain.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related discipline.

Experience and Skills

  • Significant leadership experience in expediting and logistics within large-scale industrial or energy projects.

  • Extensive hands-on experience managing expediting and logistics as the primary job function.

  • Proven ability to manage high volumes of international shipments and administer freight forwarding contracts.

  • In-depth knowledge of customs regulations, trade compliance, and international shipping standards.

  • Strong experience in supplier performance management, contract compliance, and freight negotiations.

  • Excellent organisational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • High level of proficiency in written and spoken English.
