Purpose of the Role

The Lead Civil Engineer is responsible for overseeing the full scope of civil engineering and design deliverables within assigned project areas. Acting as the discipline focal point, this role manages interdisciplinary coordination, team leadership, technical quality, and resource planning to ensure timely, safe, and compliant execution across all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure technical quality, compliance, and timely delivery of all civil engineering outputs and documentation.
  • Review discipline design work to verify alignment with contractual specifications, regulatory codes, and applicable standards.
  • Lead and coordinate discipline-specific teams to deliver high-quality engineering and drafting packages.
  • Define scope, schedules, budgets, staffing plans, and procedures for civil works across onshore, offshore, and modular project areas.
  • Manage engineering progress tracking, productivity metrics, and manhour budgets with corrective measures where needed.
  • Participate in procurement efforts, including preparation of technical documentation and review of vendor recommendations.
  • Lead design studies to evaluate special civil/structural challenges and propose cost-effective, constructible solutions.
  • Support interdisciplinary collaboration with structural, mechanical, electrical, procurement, QA/QC, and construction teams.
  • Participate in or lead Engineering Assurance Audits and ensure documentation aligns with procurement and construction readiness.
  • Evaluate and develop engineering staff, ensuring resource optimization and knowledge transfer.
  • Promote HSE, constructability, and project excellence across the civil discipline.
  • Monitor time management, reporting, and staff transitions as project phases are completed.

     

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university.

Experience & Background

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including 5 years in a supervisory or lead engineer role.
  • Solid experience in Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design is required.
  • Regional (GCC or equivalent international market) experience is considered a plus.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of international structural codes (e.g., AISC, ACI, Eurocode) and seismic design standards
  • Proficiency with structural software such as STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, and Tekla Structures
  • Familiarity with constructability practices and field execution constraints for heavy civil work
  • Strong understanding of requirements for foundations, equipment supports, pipe racks, and modular structures
  • ERP experience preferred - ideally with functional knowledge of SAP
