Electrical Engineer – Permanent

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support a variety of materials development and innovation projects within the energy sector. This role offers the opportunity to apply advanced simulation techniques to high voltage electrical cable systems, as well as other power generation, transmission, and distribution assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out finite element analysis (FEA) modelling of high voltage electrical cable systems and related infrastructure.

  • Perform simulations involving electrical, thermal, and mechanical parameters such as stress, strain, fatigue, and vibration.

  • Develop accurate FEA models, applying appropriate boundary conditions and material properties.

  • Analyse and interpret simulation results, identifying areas for optimisation and recommending design modifications.

  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to enhance performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Produce clear, detailed technical documentation and reports, including visualisations and analysis findings.

  • Ensure compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Contribute to team knowledge-sharing and process improvements in FEA modelling.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with a focus on FEA modelling of high voltage systems.

  • Proven experience with FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL.

  • Strong knowledge of material science principles and high voltage systems.

  • Skilled in post-processing, data interpretation, and technical reporting.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work independently when required.

  • Effective problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed decisions under uncertainty.

  • Willingness to learn and contribute to the professional growth of the wider team.
