Electrical Energization Specialist
Location: Qatar
Contract: 12 months (client-side assignment)
Schedule: 5 days per week, 10-hour days
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Energization Specialist to support a client-side project team during the planning, execution, and verification of electrical energisation activities. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise to ensure all systems are energised safely, efficiently, and in line with project requirements, industry standards, and statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Support
- Act as the subject matter expert for electrical energisation.
- Review and provide input on energisation procedures, switching plans, and safety documentation.
- Verify contractor and OEM test reports against project specifications.
- Provide on-site technical guidance during complex energisation activities.
Pre-Energisation Activities
- Confirm inspections, pre-commissioning tests, and readiness checks are complete.
- Verify installation quality of HV, MV, and LV systems.
- Ensure protection relays and control systems are correctly set and calibrated.
- Check earthing systems and bonding continuity before energisation.
Energisation Support
- Oversee safe execution of energisation activities in accordance with approved plans.
- Monitor system performance and electrical parameters during voltage application.
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving issues during energisation.
Post-Energisation
- Review energisation results and system performance data.
- Ensure corrective actions are implemented where required.
- Contribute to final energisation reports and turnover documentation.
Interface & Coordination
- Work closely with EPC contractors, OEM specialists, commissioning, and operations teams.
- Report risks, deviations, and recommendations to the client's Electrical Lead.
- Participate in coordination meetings and readiness reviews.
- Serve as the key point of contact between contractors, commissioning, and client representatives during energisation.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, NEC, NFPA 70E, and local regulations.
- Enforce LOTO and PTW procedures.
- Promote electrical safety best practices and client HSE standards.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 10+ years' experience in commissioning and energisation on large industrial projects.
- Strong track record in HV and MV energisation and troubleshooting.
- In-depth knowledge of protection systems, earthing, and electrical safety.
- Previous client-side or owner's engineer experience preferred.
