Overview

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning & Start-up Field Service Engineer for a short-term offshore assignment involving a generator swap-out in the Gulf of Mexico. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting commissioning, installation oversight, functional testing, and start-up of industrial generator systems for a critical offshore power application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on electrical commissioning and start-up services for high-voltage generator equipment.
  • Supervise and participate in the removal of the legacy generator and the installation of the replacement unit, ensuring OEM standards are met.
  • Perform pre-commissioning, loop checks, insulation resistance testing, and electrical integrity assessments.
  • Coordinate with mechanical and controls teams to execute synchronized commissioning activities.
  • Configure and verify protection relays, excitation systems, and synchronization systems.
  • Ensure all systems are compliant with applicable codes (IEC, API, IEEE) and offshore safety regulations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues and perform final system validation, start-up, and handover.
  • Liaise with platform operations personnel and provide daily status reports to project stakeholders.
  • Adhere strictly to offshore HSE standards and contribute to a safety-first culture.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Electrical Engineering Degree or equivalent trade qualification with relevant field experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of field commissioning/start-up experience with large industrial generator systems (6.6kV or higher).
  • Prior experience working on offshore oil & gas platforms or FPSOs in the Gulf of Mexico or similar environments.
  • Strong knowledge of brushless excitation systems, AVR configuration, and protective relay schemes.
  • Familiarity with alternators, control panels, and excitation modules.
  • Valid offshore certifications (e.g., BOSIET, HUET, TWIC, OGUK medical, etc.) are mandatory.
  • Ability to interpret complex electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
