Job Description - Drilling Supervisor (2/2 Rotation)

1. Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Drilling Supervisor to oversee full drilling operations on a geothermal land‑rig project in Scandinavia. The role requires a hands‑on leader with a strong operational background in land‑based drilling campaigns, preferably within geothermal, deep well, high‑temperature, or complex drilling environments.
The Drilling Supervisor will ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of all drilling activities across the well lifecycle-from spud to handover. This position is rotational (2/2) and requires the candidate to have legal Right to Work in the EU/EEA or Switzerland.
You will be the senior onsite representative responsible for supervising all rig operations, ensuring alignment with program objectives, HSE standards, and regulatory requirements. Strong leadership, communication skills, and the ability to manage contractors on a multi‑disciplinary drilling site are essential.
2. Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Lead and supervise all drilling, well control, and worksite operations on a geothermal land‑rig.
- Ensure the drilling program is executed safely, efficiently, and within specified technical standards.
- Oversee rig contractor activities, third‑party service providers, equipment utilisation, and daily crew performance.
- Maintain accurate operational reporting, including Daily Drilling Reports (DDR), equipment status logs, and incident/NPT tracking.
Health, Safety & Environmental Compliance
- Promote and enforce a strong HSE culture on site and ensure all operations comply with local regulations and corporate safety policies.
- Conduct daily toolbox talks, safety briefings, site inspections, and ensure full adherence to safety management systems.
- Identify potential hazards and implement proactive mitigation measures, especially relevant to geothermal high‑temperature operations.
Well Delivery & Technical Management
- Execute drilling programs including: wellbore construction, casing/ cementing operations, directional drilling, logging, and well control practices.
- Participate in well planning discussions, drilling optimisation initiatives, and lessons‑learned workshops.
- Ensure rig equipment, mud systems, BOP, tubulars, and all critical systems are functional and certified.
- Support troubleshooting of downhole challenges such as losses, stability issues, or geothermal‑specific temperature constraints.
Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination
- Act as the primary onsite interface between operations management, service contractors, service companies, and site personnel.
- Ensure contractors perform work in accordance with contract requirements and operational expectations.
- Support logistics coordination including equipment movement, waste management, consumables, and third‑party service scheduling.
Documentation & Reporting
- Deliver high‑quality daily/weekly reports, safety documentation, drilling time analyses, and operations summaries.
- Maintain accurate well data, cost tracking inputs, and operational records.
- Assist in end‑of‑well reporting and performance reviews.
3. Candidate Profile
Essential Qualifications
- MUST have Right to Work in Europe (EU/EEA/Swiss nationality or existing work permit).
- Minimum 8-10 years of drilling operations experience, with at least 3-5 years as Drilling Supervisor / Company Representative.
- Proven experience on land rigs, preferably in geothermal, deep‑well, HP/HT, or technically challenging drilling campaigns.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Drilling operations and equipment
- Well control standards (IWCF Level 4 strongly preferred)
- Rig operations, safety procedures, and drilling program execution
- Contractor management in multi‑service environments
Technical Competencies
- Demonstrated ability to manage full well construction phases (spud to TD).
- Strong understanding of well control, cementing methods, casing design, and directional drilling.
- Familiarity with geothermal drilling challenges such as high‑temperature formations, losses, and scaling.
- Competent in interpreting drilling data, hydraulics, KPIs, and performance optimisation.

4. Rotation & Work Conditions
- 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation (paid travel days depending on project).
