Position Title: Engineer - DR-MH Electrical & Instrument

Job Purpose
The DR-MH Electrical & Instrument Engineer is responsible for analysing electrical and instrumentation maintenance activities within the DR-MH plant and providing technical support and leadership. The role ensures proactive, cost-effective maintenance and engineering services that maximise plant availability and reliability. The post-holder identifies and implements technical improvements to maintenance programmes and equipment to support operational efficiency and quality output.
Key Accountabilities
Technical Maintenance Activities
- Analyse daily maintenance activities and adjust plans to ensure maintenance objectives are met.
- Review calibration and maintenance results, identifying technical improvements or equipment developments.
- Troubleshoot technical problems and implement corrective solutions.
- Conduct technical research and apply findings to enhance operations.
- Review engineering designs for new projects and identify variations.
- Prepare tender documents for CAPEX projects, evaluate technical offers, manage project timelines, and coordinate execution.
- Liaise with operations teams to interpret requirements and represent them in the field.
- Execute and supervise maintenance programmes for critical or complex equipment, including automation systems, minimising downtime.
- Ensure preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programmes are completed to standard.
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and third parties for maintenance support and equipment upgrades.
- Recommend and evaluate procurement of equipment/systems, provide specifications, and ensure successful commissioning.
- Manage discrete projects and contribute to larger initiatives from feasibility study to implementation.
- Apply technical expertise across electrical and instrumentation systems in DR-MH and associated material handling systems.
- Identify opportunities for cost-effective alternatives or spare part substitutions.
Planning
- Estimate costs for annual OPEX and CAPEX budgets and project timelines.
- Prepare annual maintenance plans to ensure high operational standards.
- Plan and recommend equipment, systems, and spares for procurement, ensuring effective commissioning.
- Prepare long-term (5-year) maintenance plans for management approval.
Budgeting & Inventory Control
- Propose annual OPEX/CAPEX budgets for approval.
- Review monthly budget consumption to ensure alignment with approved plans.
- Manage inventory to maintain minimum stock levels without unnecessary duplication.
Supporting Activities
- Support IT cyber security teams in monitoring and controlling OT systems.
- Provide technical guidance to team members to resolve maintenance issues.
Data Recording & Analysis
- Review inspection results and analyse data to predict potential issues.
- Ensure all records comply with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001, and other relevant standards.
Reporting
- Prepare management reports with data analysis and recommendations.
- Report technical abnormalities and propose corrective actions.
- Review delays and faults and conduct root-cause analyses.
Continuous Improvement
- Develop improvements to policies, procedures, and operating standards.
- Lead technical development to achieve continuous operational improvement and maintenance KPIs.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Identify hazards, assess risks, and take action to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with all HSE procedures, raising concerns and recommending corrective actions.
- Participate in PSM and HAZOP studies and contribute to monthly safety meetings and patrols.
Policies, Processes & Procedures
- Monitor compliance with codes, QA/QC policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Draft and maintain standard operating procedures for maintenance activities.
- Ensure continuous improvement in operational integrity through adherence to procedures.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electrical Power/Electronic Engineering
Experience:
- Minimum 7-8 years' experience in Direct Reduction plants and material handling systems
Job-Specific Skills:
- In-depth knowledge in electrical and instrumentation engineering and the entire production operation
- Comprehensive understanding of DR process, associated material handling systems, and steelmaking plants
- Experience with PLCs, SCADA, automation networks, and cybersecurity technologies
- Proficiency with measuring instruments, electrical equipment, P&ID diagrams, AC/DC drives, motors, transformers, electrical protection systems, and field instruments
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and quality systems
- Supervisory and people management skills
